In this briefing

Pinterest is putting paid placements inside visual searches, where shoppers are still deciding what they want. That is today's clearest opening for retailers and home-service brands. Meta is also consolidating the machinery behind creator campaigns, while OpenAI is giving law firms a specialist version of its newest model. Each shift moves AI closer to a buying or working decision.

Pinterest said on September 17 that advertisers can now bid for a prominent spot in visual search results and close-up views of Pins. A Pin is an image or video that a person saves on Pinterest. The company says its users make more than 80 billion searches each month, most of them visual, and more than half have a commercial purpose.

The new Visual Search Ads format matters because it catches a shopper before they have settled on the words for a product. Someone may photograph a lamp, tap part of a room, or explore a saved image rather than type “brass reading light.” The advertiser can then send that person directly to its site. Businesses selling furniture, clothing, decor, or visually distinctive products have the clearest reason to test. A plumbing company probably does not.

Creative accuracy will matter more here than polished slogans. Start with real product images that show shape, color, and context clearly. Our small-business guide to AI product photography explains where generated settings help and where they can mislead buyers. Keep the product itself true to life.

Your move

Choose five products that customers often discover by appearance. Build one visual-search campaign with accurate images, a fixed budget, and direct product-page links. Compare completed sales against your normal Pinterest search ads after two weeks, rather than judging the test by clicks alone.

Meta combines creator discovery and paid ads

Meta launched Creator Marketing Hub globally on September 17, bringing creator search, messages, content recommendations, and partnership-ad setup into one place. A partnership ad is a paid Facebook or Instagram post that displays both the brand and creator. Facebook creators are also joining the same outside-software connection that already covers Instagram creators.

The practical gain is less tool-hopping. A brand can find a creator, inspect content, contact that person, and prepare an ad without moving between separate Meta products. Meta is adding an AI assistant to help with creator searches, plus editing checks that flag whether a post is ready to become an ad. Meta says the features will arrive in stages through the rest of 2026.

Do not let the shorter workflow weaken approval. Put usage rights, payment, disclosure, and the exact posts a brand may promote into the agreement before money moves. That is especially important when a creator uses synthetic people or altered footage. Our AI content policy template gives owners a starting point for those review rules. Teams already buying social ads should also watch the broader ad-platform updates lane as Meta rolls the hub out account by account.

OpenAI builds a specialist model for law firms

OpenAI introduced Astra for Law on September 17, a version of GPT-6 Astra configured for legal research, analysis, and writing. It includes a legal search index covering US case law, laws, regulations, court rules, and administrative decisions across more than 230 million web addresses. Selected firms get early access through ChatGPT and Codex, with an application programming interface, the connection other software uses to call a model, coming later.

This is a vertical product, not a general upgrade every owner needs. Law firms and legal-software companies should pay attention because OpenAI is combining the model with specialist sources, privacy controls, and 26 connections to legal products. In OpenAI's own 200-question test, Astra for Law passed its overall correctness check on 54% of questions, versus 38.7% for the general Astra model using web search. That is promising vendor evidence, not permission to remove lawyer review.

For other professional firms, the signal is broader: general AI models are being packaged with industry data and controls. Read our earlier Astra launch coverage for the base model, then follow AI-tool updates for specialist versions in accounting, health, and other regulated work. The first question should be who checks the output, not how quickly it drafts.

Worth watching

  • Pinterest's Restyle room-preview tool is in beta in the US and Canada, with a wider release planned for October.
  • Meta plans to make Instagram Live partnership ads generally available on September 29.
  • OpenAI says Astra for Law will reach its API later, but it has not published a general release date.
